We have purchased the teacher resource guide. It gives the teachers ideas for lessons and crafts. Which is great for those WCC teachers that want structure or a guide line to follow. However, any teacher can take this curriculum and put their own twist on the lessons/crafts. This is meant to be fun for you and for the children at WCC this summer! This is going to be like a Sunday morning VBS for 1st service and dual service kids.

On the day of His ascension into heaven, Jesus gave His faithful followers one final mandate. He surely looked each disciple in the eyes when He told them, "Go into the world and make disciples of all nations..."

Most churches today are doing a poor job discharging that responsibility. If Jesus paid us a surprise visit, we would show Him our nice classrooms and resource centers. We might introduce Him to our teaching staff, invite Him to share snacks with preschoolers, and ask Him to teach the older kids. Afterwards, my guess is that Jesus might say: "Thank you for the tour. I can see that you're having a good time together. You've invested in resources and environments. But I came today for another reason-remember the one thing I commanded you to do? Now, please show Me your disciples."

The Great Adventure is going to have some wonderful things for the children at this event. Moms just think I will have your children and you can enjoy some adult time. The children will have plenty of fun and hopefully the will fall asleep on the Adventure back home.

Everyone Come aboard The Great Adventure for 2008/2209. We are in for an EXCITING TIME!!!

I am very excited to say that The Great Adventure has been going through some wonderful changes in the last several weeks. God can do so much with a ministry when you give it to him. I know longer say that we can not do something because God can do all things. All we have to do it invest everything into Him. This ministry has to grow because my God is a big God.

I want to start out by saying that I have been keeping up with the Star Students Awards. This ministry is still very active. I just haven't had the time to update the web.

Here are the most recent students....

Jordan Manuel was for August 17th thru 22nd, Seth Gurgone was for August 24th thru 30th and Aiden Minter was for 31st thru Sept. 6th. I want to apologize to all of the parents for not getting this information on the website sooner.

We sent home our first Newsletter. This is our official Navigator. It will guide you and direct on The Great Adventure journey.

The Big Adventures are going to be grades 1st thru 5th.
The Little Adventures are going to be Nursery thru Kindergarten.

September:

We are planning to launch our Christmas program during the 11AM service. Kristie Agee is planning on practicing the music for 20 minutes with the Little Adventures and 20 minutes with the Big Adventures every other week.

Annual Church Picnic from 3PM to 8PM. Great Adventure Games start at 3:15pm. I would love to see all of the children there. I'm waiting on approval for games such as 3 legged race, balloon toss, egg spoon race, red light-green light, Simon says, mother may I, dodge ball, parachute play (ordering today). My plan is to keep the children busy and give the parents a time to fellowship with other adults.

October: Big Adventure Fun Night. Admission $3.00. date TBA. Friday Night. Time 6:00pm til 9:00pm. Games, Pizza, Movie and Popcorn. This would be a time for the children to be with their teachers and the Children's Leadership team.

November: Whirligig. Great Adventure will have a table. We are doing this with the entire church. Isn't this EXCITING!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!

December: Christmas Craft Day....more information later.

Great Adventure Team devotion, relaxation, and fellowship. Leaders, volunteers, helpers and moms. This would be a time to get to know each other without the children.

Little Adventures day at the park
Big Adventure Spring Fun Night

Children help serve parents a Spaghetti Dinner for Mother's and Father's Day. Maybe involve the youth, too. This could be in between the two dates. Maybe even some musical entrainment.

Hpoefully we will have another VBS Adventure to go on in the summer of 2009. YEAH!!!

Please be in prayer for the Great Adventure Leadership Team as they begin to plan 2008/2009.

The Great Adventure Star Student for August 10 - Aug. 16

Javon Manuel, age 10

I wanted to praise Javon for two things this week.

I noticed that on Saturday, August 9, 2008 Javon was a helper with our children at VBS. I was very happy to see him helping with the children and serving them instead of himself. I have noticed that Javon is at his best when he is serving others.

I noticed that Javon was having a somewhat difficult morning before service this past Sunday morning. I couldn't help seeing that he had been upset and he was in the hallway talking to his mother. His teacher walked by with the class after taking them to worship. She noticed him in the hallway and said "What am I going to do without Javon this morning. I need him to help teach the class. He is such a good helper and always teaches so well. Javon if I tell you what we are going to do this morning will you lead class and I assist you." I believe that Javon went on in the class and helped her teach. I went and checked on other classes after that.

I do know that many Sunday mornings Javon has been the assistant teacher during her class. He has been an awesome assistant and has showed an amazing servants heart. I know that there have been a few times that the teacher has allowed him to lead the reading of the bible and asking the students questions. This has been really good for him and I have seen some amazing growth in him since she has started working with him.

I know that many people do not see this side of Javon but I know that my God does. I am proud to have Javon on our team.

Javon, I love you but God loves you more.

The Great Adventure Star Student for August 3 - Aug. 9

Tyler Hurt, age 9

Parents are Mike and Amy McKinley

I wanted to reconize Tyler because every Sunday morning he is at the church working. Tyler is a behind the scenes kinda guy. When many of us are at just getting out of bed on a Sunday morning. Tyler is helping the set up team prepare the church for the Sunday morning services. I have noticed over the summer that he is a very busy guy. I have seen Tyler stay after church with his father, too.

I am very proud of all the young children in our church that are stepping up and serving. It is nice to see that we are bringing up children in our church that will understand that Sunday mornings are not about themselves. I pray that they will have a clear understanding that Sunday mornings are for reaching those who do not know Christ.

May God Bless you, Tyler. Keep doing what you do because you are working for the Lord.

The Great Adventure Star Student for July 27 thru August 2

Megan Barnes, age 3

Parents are Ken and Tammy Barnes

On Sunday, July 17, 2008 Megan's class was learning about Forgiveness. Megan's teacher was talking to them about how important it is to tell the truth even when you know that it might hurt someone. She said that God will forgive you and your parents will forgive you, too.

The class made these really neat little boxes at craft time. The boxes were called Repentance/Forgiveness boxes. The child was suppose to pray about something that did wrong that day and the next morning there would be a fruit chew in the box.

The teacher asked the class if they had anything that they would like to pray for. Something that they know that they struggled. Most of the children did not want to talk. One child even mentioned that he does not sin but our shy little Megan spoke up that morning. She said that she gets very angry at her parents. The teacher asked her why does she get angry with them. Megan said that it is because she does not get everything that she wants. The teacher prayed for the class and for Megan.

When I heard this story I felt that I needed to star Megan. It takes a lot for a child to admit something like that especially a 3 year old. I am really amazed at the things our children are learning in The Great Adventure. Teachers keep doing what you are doing because our children are getting it.

The Great Adventure Star Student for July 20 - July 26

Lillian Wall, 8 years old

This was a hard decision. It came down to two children. Everyone had a hard time deciding between the two. Look for the other child next week.

One of my teachers open my eyes this morning and said that she really felt that Lillian's whole story needed to be told. Her story does not end at church. She really opened up and shared her heart like never before.

Believe me, we are truly having church in the K-5 group. All of you really need to get on board this Great Adventure. There are many more fish to catch.

The topic was "The Armor of God" Ephesians 6:10-20

We actually had a male teacher this week and I assisted.

The teacher started at the top with the Helmet of Salvation. He discussed what it meant and waited for the children to respond about each part of the armor. When he got to the Shield of Faith, Lillian raised her hand. I pointed to him that she had something to say but what she said next was something amazing.

He had told them to just think of what you could do with a real shield. If someone throws a snowball at you, you can lift the shield so it doesn't hit you at all. We can use the shield in the same way when bad things come our way like temptations or doubt. Sometimes the devil will try to make us think there isn't a God, or that he doesn't love us because we've done something wrong. We need to hold up our shield and stop these thoughts when this happens and remember that God loves us no matter what.

Once she was recongnized Lillian said "that she needed to throw up her Shield of Faith and block tempations that come her way." Lillian was asked what temptations does she struggle with? She said "that she is tempted by the things that her friends have especailly when she goes to their house." She even named one of her friends that was sitting in the room listening. She said "she learned that it is called Covet". She said "that the coveting is a struggle for her and she needs that shield to block out those temptations."

Later at home she went into a more deeper discussion about her struggles with me. She came to me and said that she covets anything that she thinks is better than what she has at home. She even went to a point of saying that she has a friend that she totally wants to be just like. I asked her why. Her reponse was that she is not as awesome as this person. Many people like her.

I reminded her that I thought it was wonderful that she was able to confess she struggles in front of her friend at church that morning. I also reminded her that her friend loves her just the way that she is. She would never want Lillian to be anymore than who she is right now.

Most of all, I reminded her that God loves her the way that she is because he made her that way for a reason. He made her for His glory not anyone else. After that we prayed.

She was really happy that she had made her confession in front of one of her best friends. She was also happy that she was able to sit with her after class and enjoy a present that her friend had recieved that morning. She said that she was happy for her friend and did not covet the present any longer.

So, I think that was great because it was the present that reminder her that she had a problem with covet.

Our children are growing in the Children's Ministry in Faith and they are becoming real with each other.

Hard Decision this week.

We are down to 3 students....

I have had several students do some amazing things this week but 3 students stood out the most. We have not decided which one we are going to choose. It is a hard decision because all 3 stand out on their own.

I want to give all 3 children the star student.

I am totally amazed by The Great Adventure Children. We do not offer a fancy curriculum or a fancy study. What we do offer is GOD and He never fails to show up.

Next Sunday, I challenge all of you to love on our children and thank God for the amazing work that He through them.

The Great Adventure Star Student for July 13 - July 19

Amber Blake, age 7

Parents are Sandy and Candy Blake

The lesson for this Sunday in the 11:00 am service was "Patience"

Amber's teacher said that the lesson for Sunday was on patience. She was trying to keep an eye out for students who were using characters traits like Christ, sort of like the fruits of the Spirit. And it just so happened that one child truly stood out in her mind.

Amber Blake was the third child served a snack after the story and game during class. Amber watched and waited patiently until every child had a snack and then she started eating hers.

Most of the teachers know that this is huge and also hard for Amber because she tends to stuggle with this one fruit a lot.

I wanted to make sure that she knows that we love her and God loves her.

James 5: 7-8
Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmert waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near.

Being patient prepares us for the Lord's coming. Many things that you are learning now is preparing you for your relationship with Jesus.

The Great Adventure Star Student for July 6 - July 12

Austin Barnes, age 9 (UPDATED please read)

Parents are Sonny and Amanda Allen

Austin was choosen to be the star student because he has been serving in various areas of the church lately.

Austin has been spotted working with the set up team before church and after church. He has also been spotted at the front of the church with the greeter team. He has opened the door for many women in our church. I think he is showing many of us that these are the traits of a fine gentlemen but what he is really teaching us is how to be a servant in God's Kingdom.

Keep up the work Austin. Remember, you are doing this for the Lord.

to win as many as possible

I know many of us have came to church on a Sunday morning ready and willing to listen to the wonderful message that God has given the pastor for this weeks sermon. I know that once you arrive and sit down you never give it a second to how things went during set up that morning or who will clean up and tear things down when the sermon is over. Maybe you haven't thought about those people that greeted you so nicely this morning or the young women back there teaching your children that drove you crazy on the way to church.

These people have choose to work in our church to help win as many as possible for God's kingdom. They are there to make things comfortable for the lost who need to here God's message on Sunday morning. I think it is WONDERFUL to have these people who are willing to give themselves for others especially His lost sheep.

OH! I think it is WONDERFUL to see our children in the Great Adventure stepping up to these positions at church and choosing to give themselves at such a young age.

Next time, you go to church take a moment to look around. You will see many working but take a closer look because many of our children are stepping up and working for God too.

The Great Adventure Star Student for June 29 - July 5

Holly Jones, age 10

I am very proud of Holly Jones. This is a story that I am very thrilled to tell.

Sunday, June 22, I went up to a teacher to ask who she thought in her class had shown a Christlike attiude. Maybe there was a student had done something for the teacher or the class that showed a Christlike behavior. The teacher did not want to say anything at the time because the student she was going to mention was standing with us. She finally mentioned her name anyway. She wanted the star student to be Holly Jones. Holly had made those beautiful cards that the children had used for the 10 commandents during the 11am service. She had spent a lot of her Saturday making them without any complaint.

You would expect Holly to be surprised and very pleased, right.

Holly was not happy that she was choosen because she felt that someone deserved it just a little bit more.

She looked at me and said "Ms. Amy, I think that Aubrey Bowen deserves this more than me because she was willing to help another student on the swings today."

I was explained by the teacher that the student could not reach the ground to push herself and that Aubrey was willing to give up her time for that child. Holly knew that they had learned the bible verse

Proverbs 20:11

Even children are known by the way they act,
whether their conduct is pure, and whether it is right. (NLT)

and she wanted Aubrey to be noticed for her good deeds.

Holly,
I went home and I prayed about what to do. I did not choose Aubrey last week because you noticed her. I choose her because God in you noticed her. I firmly feel that God wanted you to see Christ in Aubrey and God wanted you to be there when I was talking to your teacher. I think that He had a plan all along. He wanted us to see Aubrey's heart, yes, but He wanted us to see your heart, too.

Praise God, You are this weeks Star Student.

What an honor it is to be in a church with children like you. I pray that you continue to lift up your peers. Your peers need someone like you in their life to encourage them when they are doing something for the Lord. Many times the children go unnoticed for their walk with the Lord but always noticed for the worldly things that they do.

You continue to do God's work and I pray that you continue to call out to the Heavens every time you see one of God's children doing His work. You are a truly amazing young lady. Bless You.

The Great Adventure Star Student for June 22 - June 28

Aubrey Bowen, age 7

Parents are Jamey and Beth Bowen

Aubrey attended 1st service this week.

The memory verse was
Proverbs 20:11 Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right.

I believe they talked about their good and their bad actions. When they went to play on the playground one of the students in the class noticed that Aubrey had chose not to play. She chose to help a small child on the swing because her feet could not reach the ground. The student, Holly Jones, called out to the whole class look at Aubrey Bowen. "She is a child known by her actions" said Holly Jones. I was told that Aubrey chose to continue to push the child even when she was offered freeze pops for snack.

Aubrey, we are all so blessed to have you in The Great Adventure. A heart like yours doesn't go unnoticed because God is always there in everything that you do. I am honored to say that you are this weeks star student.

I believe when we are called to have a childlike heart it is because their heart is Christlike. Take a moment and spend some time with our children in The Great Adventure. They really get it.

Great Adventure Star Student for June 15 - June 21

Trevor Hurt, age 10

Treavor is the son of Mike and Amy McKinley.

The lesson this Sunday was on Exodus 20:17

"You mush not want to take your neighbor's house. You must not want his wift or his men or women slaves. You must not want his ox or his donkey. You must not want to take anything that belongs to your neighbor." Internation Children's Bible

Treavor's teacher during 1st service was given him a description about how she actually stuggles with this verse from time to time. Treavor sinced what she was feeling and made a point to remind her that her treasures are not here on Earth. He continued to explain to her that her treasures are in Heaven. He gave her a very clear description of what she is here for and where her treasures are stored.

Treavor, we see your beautiful heart and your love for the Lord. I am honored to name you this weeks Star Student.

Great Adventure Star Student for June 8 - June 14

Isaac Minter, 5 year old

Issac Minter is the son of Jonathan and Michelle Minter.

Isaac had love and compassion for his teacher this week. He knew that she was dealing with something and he felt in his heart that our class should pray that she would hear from God.

Praise God for the willingness of our children to come to Him for everything.

Coming Soon - New Numbering System in Great Adventure

New child numbering system

The Great Adventure will be introducing a new number system for our children soon. We will have one check-in place for all children from there they will be
sent to their classroom. You will also be registering your children so we can gather information and for you to receive your number for you child/children.

We will be using the numbers you receive, to retrieve parents of children who are needed in the nursery, by popping up your number on the Power Point in the
left hand upper corner of the screen. When you receive your number make sure you keep a watch out for your number(s)! Then you can quietly sneak out to take care of you child(ren).

Just another way to serve you as we continue to be dedicated to our children and their needs.

Great Adventure Star Students

Weekly Program. Updated on July 3, 2008. Please read...

This is something that we will be doing every week. I will star one student from the Great Adventure. I believe I am going to start with preschool to 5th grade. I am not doing anything special. I am just planning to keep my eyes and ears open. I believe something special happens every week in the Children's ministry but we are to focused on our own problems and issues to notice. For that very reason I felt it would be a great way for us to see God's Glory and give Him honor for what He does each and every Sunday with His children.

There can be many reasons why I choose to star a child.

examples would be....

they excepted Christ
they showed compassion for a friend, teacher, parent, or church member
they reached out to pray for a hurting teacher or friend
or went to extras lengths to show the teacher respect

I pray that God will be my eyes and ears each week.

I will be handing out a Chilli's Pepper Award, given by Jimmy and Christie Gurgone, to each child that I choose as a Star Student each week. This allows the child one free meal from our Chili's Kid's Meal Menu when an adult meal is purchased.

At the end of ten weeks, We will put all of the Star Students name's in a bucket and the name drawn will recieve 3 tickets to the movies. This will give the child a chance to go to the movies with their parents as a reward. Yes, one on one time with your parents for those of you with brothers and sisters.

After that we will start all over with 10 more students.

Proverbs 22:6 "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he wil not turn from it."

Teachers please share your stories with me. I am looking for children every Sunday. I think this is a great program and I would like to see it to continue.
