GO DEEP

BUILDING FUND

“Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Now go out where it is deeper and let down your nets, and you will catch many fish.’” (Luke 5:3-4 NLT)

The nets - The nets represent our time and talent. You can join us on the journey by taking time to pray and use your gifts and talents for the Lord’s work as we prepare to move into this new property.

The boats - The boats represent our possessions and identity. You can join the journey by turning all your possessions and your identity over to God. What is Jesus asking you to give for Him to use?

The fish - The fish represents our calling in this world. We are called to be fishers of men. This new property offers an opportunity to be located in the center of the city as a visible and present “City Church!”

GO DEEP! Turn in your “Go Deep” pledge card today. Let it represent an amount that will require faith and sacrifice to give. Ask God to help you to give beyond your ability. Then, look at your nets and boat. What do you have? How can you give it asking God to multiply the gift? Bring your gift into the church. We need to have it by September 19, 2010.

What is the Advent Conspiracy?

A movement of churches across the U.S. to restore the message of Christmas to its true meaning ...
Promise, hope, and a revolutionary love. So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a Savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists. And when it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas? What if Christmas became a world-changing event again?
Welcome to Advent Conspiracy, a movement calling us to proclaim Christ in how we celebrate Christmas. Advent Conspiracy was started in 2006 by five pastors who decided to make Christmas a revolutionary event by encouraging their faith communities to Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More and Love All. The response was overwhelming and the Conspiracy was born. The vision for this project is a collaboration between Rick McKinley of Imago Dei Community in Portland, OR; Greg Holder from Windsor Crossing in St. Louis, MO; and Chris Seay of Ecclesia in Houston, TX.

ENTER THE STORY
Advent Conspiracy is a resource for churches to engage in authentic Worship and Giving at Christmas more fully – a simple idea for you to take and run with. Be as creative and bless those in need by giving relationally as God gave His Son to us at Christmas. No money comes to or through Advent Conspiracy. You decide where and how you would like to Give More to those in need. The concept behind Advent Conspiracy is simple…

[WORSHIP FULLY]
It starts with Jesus. It ends with Jesus. This is the holistic approach God had in mind for Christmas. It’s a season where we are called to put down our burdens and lift a song up to our God. It’s a season where love wins, peace reigns, and a king is celebrated with each breath. It’s the party of the year. Entering the story of Advent means entering this season with an overwhelming passion to worship Jesus to the fullest.

[SPEND LESS]
Before you think we’re getting all Scrooge on you, let us explain what we mean. We like gifts. Our kids really like gifts. But consider this: America spends an average of $450 billion a year every Christmas. How often have you spent money on Christmas presents for no other reason than obligation? How many times have you received a gift out of that same obligation? Thanks, but no thanks, right? We’re asking people to consider buying ONE LESS GIFT this Christmas. Just one. Sounds insignificant, yet many who have taken this small sacrifice have experienced something nothing less than a miracle: They have
been more available to celebrate Christ during the advent season. Looking for a few gifts that don’t cost a lot of money? Need some more ideas for relational giving? Head to www.RethinkingChristmas.com today.

[GIVE MORE]
God’s gift to us was a relationship built on love. So it’s no wonder why we’re drawn to the idea that Christmas should be a time to love our friends and family in the most memorable ways possible. Time is the real gift Christmas offers us, and no matter how hard we look, it can’t be found at the mall. Time to make a gift that turns into the next family heirloom. Time to write mom a
letter. Time to take the kids sledding. Time to bake really good cookies and sing really bad Christmas carols. Time to make love
visible through relational giving. Sounds a lot better than getting a sweater two sizes too big, right?

[LOVE ALL]
When Jesus loved, he loved in ways never imagined. Though rich, he became poor to love the poor, the forgotten, the overlooked and the sick. He played to the margins. By spending less at Christmas we have the opportunity to join him in giving resources to those who need help the most. When Advent Conspiracy first began four churches challenged this simple concept to its congregations. The result raised more than a half million dollars to aid those in need. One less gift. One unbelievable present in the name of Christ. For more information, including some videos, be sure to visit www.AdventConspiracy.org
<!--{12598701250453}-- Promise, hope, and a revolutionary love.

Gift to Hope Station

Sonny Allen and Pastor Gary presented a gift to Director Linwood Boykin of the Hope Station for $1124.00 this past Monday.

Pastor Gary, Sonny Allen, and Stephen Combs took a tour of the new Hope Station facility this past Monday, November 23rd. Hope Station Director, Linwood Boykin, was excited to receive them and take them on a tour of the building. They met many of the men that are living there in the men's dorm. They toured the food pantry and clothes closet areas that serve local families in need.

The Hope Station, which was started by the Wilson County Minister's Association, offers an integral connection between local churches and those in need in our community. Pastor Gary, who is a former president of the WCMA, believes that our church should work together with local churches and ministries to help meet needs in our community that are too large for any one church alone.

Pastor Gary says, "Why does every church have to start its own food pantry and clothes closet? Why not work together instead of building our own kingdom. Let's join God where He is already at work."

And God is certainly at work through the Hope Station. When the Pastor, Sonny, and Stephen presented Mr. Boykin the check for $1124.00 from our Whirlygig Festival booth, he was overjoyed.

Mr. Boykin said, "Thank you so much! You don't realize how far we can stretch this money to help the hungry and homeless. The need has never been greater. And your gift is so needed."

The ThanksGIVING Praise Service was amazing!

Pastor Gary reports on the wonderful worship and giving our church experienced together at our November 22nd Thanksgiving Service.
The church was packed with excited worshipers this past Sunday evening, November 22nd, as we enjoyed one of our best ThanksGIVING Praise services ever! WCC's worship team, StedFast, was awesome! They really brought us together in worship and wove together a powerful evening. Stephen Combs and his team (too many to mention) worked for days in preparation for his evening and it showed.

What a blessing for me as pastor, to just sit (and stand) with our fellow members and be encouraged. The worship was moving. The cardboard testimonies were powerful. And as usual, I cried during the baptism video, as we watched all those who had been baptized in 2009. Didn't you love how Mikey Williams put this together? Especially how the baptism candidates changed from b/w to color as they came up out of the water.

I'm especially proud of how our members are growing in their understanding of the grace of giving. We're emphasizing the "giving" part in Thanksgiving. Families crowded around their shoeboxes, filling them with gifts of love, for the Operation Christmas Child effort, while our worship team continued to lead us. We put together 124 shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse at this service. What a joy to help children around the world experience the love of Christ at Christmas. We also raised $431.00 to give to OCC to help with shipping costs.

At the end of the service we asked everyone to give an extra gift to our Christmas Benevolence Fund to help with local needs during the holiday season. As people left the service they dropped a total of $661.03 in the benevolence buckets.

How thankful I am today as I continue to think about the testimonies, worship, and giving of our church!

Whirlygig a great success!

Sonny Allen, our Director of Contribution and mission events like the Whirlygig Festival, writes,
I would like to take a moment to say thank you to the more than 50 WCCers who volunteered at our Whirlygig booth this year. Your hard work and commitment helped make our efforts an awesome success!

I would also like to give special thanks to my WCC Whirlygig Team. Abby Propst, Amanda Manuel, Marsha Morris, and Mike McKinley all worked together as a team to help us bring the church to the streets. Each of these individuals went above and beyond. We couldn't have done it without them.

We sold 261 raffle tickets, 422 cotton candies, and painted untold hairdos! In the process we raised $1124.00 for the Hope Station, a local ministry that feeds the hungry and provides shelter for the homeless.

The rocking chair raffle drawing was done after the event and the winner was Amy Barfield of Wilson. Our pastor presented the rocker to Mrs. Barfield at his office. She was delighted to win.

We have mailed out thank you letters to all those who filled out raffle cards at our booth, thanking them for helping us to help the Hope Station.

Thanks again to all of you who worked with us at Whirlygig. This event could not have happened without your love and support!

Special Called Business Meeting - This Sunday

This Sunday, November 1st, after the 11 AM service, there will be a business meeting to approve a motion by the WCC Trustees to sell the Barnes Street Building.
Immediately following the 11 AM service, we will call the members back into assembly for a vote on a motion from the WCC Trustees. We will excuse our guests after the benediction, take a 10 minute break, and then call the meeting to order at around 12:25 PM.

The motion by the Trustees will be as follows:

"We, the WCC Trustees, make a motion that the church accept the offer from Allan Bell to purchase the Barnes Street property for the agreed upon price of $140,000.00. The closing date to be set as January 29, 2010. This offer from Allan Bell has been properly signed by same and $1,400.00 in earnest money has been deposited in escrow. The Trustees unanimously recommend that the members approve this offer."

This offer will relieve the church of the liability that is currently incurred by the loan and upkeep of the building. The proceeds of the sale will go first to payoff the $97,577.00 equity line that is secured by the building. The rest of the proceeds will be directed as the Trustees recommend and the members approve in the 2010 budget, with preference going to payoff any other liabilities the church may have at that time.

The Pastor, the Pastor's Management Team, and the Trustees have met together and are in complete unity in this recommendation to the church. We are also encouraged that the buyer, Allan Bell, is planning to upfit the building as a place for Christian concerts and other Christian events.

All WCC members should prayerfully consider this matter and be prepared to approve this motion this coming Sunday.

WCC Children's Ministry Director, Amy Wall, gives a report on how things are going since we've launched two new curriculums.

I am happy to announce that The Great Adventure Children’s Ministry has two wonderful curriculums taking place in both of our Sunday morning service. This Sunday marked our 8th week with Splash Kingdom and our 1st week with DiscipleLand.

Splash Kingdom is a children’s musical/play in a curriculum format for our children. The children will be performing on Sunday, October 25, 2009. Splash Kingdom is going to be one of the greatest plays that we have ever done at WCC! There are wonderful surprises like sign language, bubbles, ballet, black light and more within the performance. I pray that all of our church members come out to support our children.

DiscipleLand just started this past Sunday and WOW was it exciting. This curriculum is to help support the parents as they disciple their children spiritually. It gives the children disciple skills, memory verses, and Bible reading. I am happy that our ministry is following the Pastor’s theme for the church this year “Discipleship.” We believe that discipleship does not have to start with the adults. The Great Adventure Ministry is committed to the discipleship of our children and supporting parents as they disciple their children.

Our ministry went a step further by splitting our 4th and 5th grade boys and girls during DiscipleLand which is at the 11:00am service. I believe this was one of the best decisions that we have made in the ministry. The boys have a policy that Ms. Amy can observe their class from the hallway since it is an all boy room only. Of course, they had no problem allowing Pastor Gary in the room.

Many thanks need to be given at this time. Thank you to Pastor Gary for taking time from preaching this past Sunday and working in our ministry. Thank you to the Pastor’s Ministry Team for listening to God and putting the children’s ministry at the top of the priority list this year. Thank you to all of the Old and New Teachers and helpers who have answered the call to serve in the Great Adventure ministry. Thank you to the Great Adventure Leadership team for all of your hard work, seen and not seen. Thanks to their families who gave up many hours of wife and mommy time to see that this ministry got the best attention.

May God bless you all,

This past Sunday we celebrated the children's promotions at our annual Hot-Diggity-Dog Picnic at the Wedgewood Picnic Shelter. The weather was perfect for volleyball, playing on the playground and having fun visiting our friends and family. The children did a wonderful job providing entertainment as they sang "Our Big God" from the StedFast worship CD. As I watched them sing, I was reminded of how blessed our children are to be able to sing and dance for our Lord, and that they get to grow up in a church that sets them on fire for Jesus our Lord and Savior. Be blessed and know you are a cherished child of God.

Many of you have asked, “How can I give a strategic gift to the Lord that is above my regular tithe?” This is a great question.
