We meet at 2301 Montgomery Drive on Sundays. We offer two services. First service is at 9:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. and the second service is at 11:00 A.M. to 12:15 P.M. We offer a contemporary worship service for adults. We offer childcare for babies and toddlers. We offer a children's church called "The REEL DEAL" for kids through the fifth grade.

Who We Are:

Wilson Community Church is a church dedicated to being the Body of Christ and fulfilling His Great Commission in this generation. We are voluntarily affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and the Southern Baptist Convention. We do not have "Baptist" in our name because we don't think of ourselves as a denominational church in the traditional sense. We believe that the local church is solely accountable to its head, who is Jesus Christ; therefore, we remain autonomous in our church government. We have decided that Christ's command to reach the lost in our community and in the world is best served by affiliating with a network of like‑minded churches for the purposes of missions, education, and other larger goals. We think of ourselves first as "Christ-followers," not "Baptists." But we are thankful to be able to network with Southern Baptists to accomplish great things for God together.

 We also voluntarily support many other missions groups and organizations who we feel to be like-minded in purpose. We currently work with the following organizations: Innovative Church Community, Campus Crusade for Christ, Pioneers, Christar, the Wilson Pregnancy Center, Focus on the Family, Prison Fellowship, Promise Keepers, and others. We have also been actively involved in community and national movements with other churches and denominations. We recently helped sponsor the Wilson Jesus Day 2000, Jesus Day 2001, and the 1999 Wilson Clyde Dupin Crusade. We are willing to work with other like-minded Christians to advance God's kingdom.

Our statements were written to create unity in spirit and purpose.

OUR PURPOSE STATEMENT:
(Our Purpose Statement answers the question: "Why do we exist as a church?")

Wilson Community Church exists to bring people to Jesus and membership in His family, develop them to Christlike maturity, and equip them for their ministry in the church and life mission in the world, in order to magnify God's name.

At WCC we use five key words to summarize Christ's five purposes for His church:
Magnify: We celebrate God's presence in worship.
Mission: We communicate God's Word through evangelism.
Membership: We incorporate God's family into our fellowship.
Maturity: We educate God's people through discipleship.
Ministry: We demonstrate God's love through service.

We examined all of the Scripture passages that relate to Christians and the church that we could find in the Bible. We found that although many passages describe what the church is to be and do, two statements by Jesus seemed to summarize it all: the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).

"Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. {38} This is the first and greatest commandment. {39} And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. {40} All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments'" (Matthew 22:37 40 NIV).

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, {20} and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19 20 NIV)

WCC is committed to being a "purpose-driven" church, fulfilling the five tasks that Christ ordained for His church to follow.

Purpose #1: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart..."
The word that describes this purpose is magnify or worship.

Purpose #2: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
The word that describes this purpose is ministry or service.

Purpose #3: "Go and make disciples..."
The word that describes this purpose is mission or evangelism.

Purpose #4: "...Baptizing them..."
The word that describes this purpose is membership or fellowship.

Purpose #5: "...Teaching them to obey..."
The word that describes this purpose is maturity or discipleship.

OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH:

We believe that:

In essential beliefs we have unity.
"There is one Body and one Spirit just as you were called to one hope when you were called one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." (Ephesians 4:4 6 NIV)

In non essential beliefs we have liberty.
"Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters ... Who are you to judge someone else�s servant? To his own master he stands or falls ... So then each of us will give an account of himself to God ... So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God."(Romans 14:1,4,12,22 NIV)

In all our beliefs we show charity.
"If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." (1 Corinthians 13:2 NIV)

The Essentials We Believe:

1. About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1, 26 27; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

2. About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He is co equal with the Father. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ he was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven�s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1 5; 14:10 30; Hebrews 4:14 15; 1 Corinthians 15:3 5; Romans 1:3 4; Acts 1:9 11)

3. About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co equal with the Father and Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He keeps the Christian and gifts the Christian for ministry and good works. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7 13; 14:16 17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18; Galatians 5:22 25)

4. About the Bible
The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is the Word of God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.(2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20 21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105; 160; 12:5; Proverbs 30:5)

5. About Mankind
Man was made in the image of God. But all of mankind is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin." This attitude separates people from God and causes them to be in rebellion against God. Only the grace of God can bring man into God's holy fellowship. The sacredness of human life is evident in that God created mankind as the crown of His creation; therefore every man possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3 6; Isaiah 53:6; 59:1 2; Romans 3:23)

6. About Salvation
Salvation is God's free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God�s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Christ by faith. (Romans 5:23; Ephesians 2:8 9; John 14:6; 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1)

7. About Eternal Security
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot "lose" it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security in Christ. (John 10:28 30; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10; 14; 13:5; 1 Peter 1:3 5)

8. About Eternity
Man was created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. Those that are separated from God will ultimately spend eternity in Hell. Those that have received God's salvation will spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16; 1 John 2:25; Colossians 1:5; John 14:1 4; Luke 12:5; Luke 16:2 25)

9. About Baptism
Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior and the believers own death to sin, burial of the old life, and the newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a public testimony of the believer's faith and identifies him with the body of Christ, which is the Church. (Matthew 3:13 17; Acts 2:41; 6:35 39; 8:12 13)

10. About the Lord's Supper
The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience where Christian believers come together as a church and memorialize the death of Jesus Christ and anticipate His second coming through the eating of the bread and drinking of the fruit of the vine according to Christ's command. It is the second ordinance of our church. (1 Corinthians 11:23 29; Mark 14:22 26)

For several years the Lord had been leading Gary Combs to full‑time ministry. In January of 1991 he surrendered his life to preach the gospel of Christ. He left his career in retail management and was accepted at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. During that first year, Gary sensed that the Lord wanted him to be a church‑planter. He began to read and study every piece of material he could find on church planting. He also prayed with and interviewed those who had been involved in church planting. Ultimately, the Lord gave Gary a burning desire to plant a church that would break down cultural barriers and reach an unchurched community with the gospel.

While Gary was going through this process of personal growth in his vision for the Lord's work, he discussed his dream of a "community" church with many of his friends, former co‑workers, and neighbors in the Wilson community. Many of them began to get so excited about this dream that they encouraged him not to wait for graduation from seminary, but to get started immediately. And so, after several months of prayer and preparation, Gary made plans to plant a new church in Wilson, North Carolina.

On Sunday, November 17, 1991 Gary and his wife Robin had 15 people (including themselves) attend a "Founder's Meeting" at their home. Of these fifteen, ten showed interest in starting a new church. It was a very exciting time! Wilson Community Church was born. The name was selected because it described its location ( Wilson), its vision (Community), and its existence (a Church).

After the Founder's Meeting it was decided that weekly Bible study meetings should take place at the home of Gary and Robin Combs. Seven people attended the first Bible study on December 8, 1991. After a few weeks the Bible study grew to the point where it was decided that a second study should be started. By the end of January 1992, there were around 25 people in average attendance between the two weekly meetings. It was then decided that a Sunday worship service should be started. On Sunday, January 26, 1992 the first worship service took place! It was held in the auditorium at Forest Hills Middle School. There were 66 people in attendance at this first service. A church was born!

Since then, Wilson Community Church has continued to grow. WCC now meets at 2301 Montgomery Drive for two Sunday Services and other church functions.
